Teal pumpkins help children with food allergies enjoy Halloween

"Trick-or-treating isn't fun without candy, but if you can have something that's fun....pencils or temporary tattoos, glitz sticks and whistles...it's a good substitute", they said.

As Alaskans prepare for for trick-or-treating on Tuesday, some Anchorage residents are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project. They help trick-or-treaters identify houses that offer non-food treats.

"There's really nothing food-wise for candy that she can eat and feel well afterwards, so we really appreciate having the non-food treats that she can have fun with", said Whiteside, who added that her Old East Village neighbourhood has been very supportive of the project. Your whole lives change", said Michele Schroeder who organized a local Teal Pumpkin Project event previous year.

It's a national project that's become more popular in the past couple of years.
