FCC Boss Pushes Back Against Trump's Call To Punish Broadcast Networks

Trump even appeared to make several public appeals for the FCC to possibly have its license revoked, even as Democratic FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel declared, that's "not how it works".

"I'm pretty consistent on licensing and would not want politics to influence our decision-making", O'Rielly said, according to a report in TR Daily. The FCC grants licenses to local stations, which then broadcast the networks. "I ask for your unwavering commitment that you will ensure the First Amendment remains a cornerstone of our democracy and that you will not follow through on this direction from the President". He took to Twitter to say: "Late Night host are dealing with the Democrats for their very "unfunny" & repetitive material, always anti-Trump! What we needed is a full-throated defense of the independence of the FCC against political interference", said Schatz.

The president has recently endeavored to cite other FCC policies as well.

Polestar Targeting Tesla With Next Two Products
The company expects to construct a maximum of 500 Polestar 1s a year in Chengdu, but to scale-up for future all-electric models. Polestar will offer its sport coupe through a car-subscriptions service, saying it will not operate any traditional dealerships.

I'm not sure why it took Ajit Pai nearly a week to say anything about President Trump's unsafe comments, but I'm glad he is willing to acknowledge that the First Amendment still applies at the FCC. And it likely won't be the last.

But Pai did not criticize Trump by name and did not talk to reporters after the event.

Still, O'Rielly defended Trump's attacks on the media, saying the president has been treated poorly by journalists.

Thousands still without power in wake of Storm Ophelia
Authorities across Ireland are counting the cost of one of the most intense storm systems to hit the country. Similar storms in the past have changed the shape of stretches of the Irish coastline, climatologists said.

But O'Rielly also said that Trump is "rightfully venting" about the media. Pai should have offered a more direct rebuke of Trump, Schwartzman said.

Pai's supporters said the chair's opposition to revoking licenses based on news content was already publicly known and that there could be pitfalls in responding to Trump directly.

"It is imperative that FCC Chairman Pai and his fellow Commissioners address this Committee and respond to the President's stated desire for regulatory abuse of his perceived critics through the FCC", the letter reads.

"I think that the president is rightfully venting his experiences and disappointment with how the coverage has been occurring regarding his administration".
