Terry Crews, who just this week revealed his own experience with sexual harassment in the industry, was one of many men boycotting in solidarity, as well.

In the image shared by McGowan, Twitter stated that it had been determined that her account had violated Twitter rules and had thus been temporarily limited to sending direct messages.

McGowan has been one of the most public detractors of Weinstein since allegations of his sexual misconduct surfaced, encouraging her #ROSEARMY to join her in criticising people who enabled, covered up or defended the alleged abuse.

Rose McGowan was suspended from Twitter for posting a phone number - not for speaking out against Harvey Weinstein and Ben Affleck, the social media service said Thursday.

Uploading a screenshot with a message from Twitter stating she can not send tweets or retweets from her account, unless she deletes "tweets that violate our rules", McGowan captioned the image: "TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME".

A number of prominent women also objected to the fact that there wasn't as much public outcry when women of color were the ones being silenced.

"We have been in touch with Ms. McGowan's team", the company posted on the account it uses for safety announcements, according to The Independent. "They need to see we matter.... We will be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future", the tweeted statement read.

In a series of FIRE tweets to Amazon president Jeff Bezos, accusing him of killing her project after she spoke out about Weinstein, she finally says the words outright.

At the time the truncated social platform insisted that "Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power".
