Kane Wins EPL September Player Of The Month Award

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola strongly refuted Mauricio Pochettino's allegation that he disrespected Tottenham by calling them "the Harry Kane team".

Speaking after Manchester City's 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Guardiola was asked for his views on City's title rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane has been named as the Premier League Player of the Month for September.

Pochettino has responded by mentioning the fact that Lionel Messi was Barcelona's standout player during the unforgettable Guardiola era at the Camp Nou - but he never highlighted that to suggest the Catalan giants were a one-man team.

Pochettino said that Guardiola was "excited" after his side's victory over Chelsea, and joked that he struggled to "keep his position and be a gentleman".

"I take that situation, that didn't affect me but the reality is it was very disrespectful for many people and it's hard to understand because he was part of the big success at Barcelona with [Lionel] Messi at his best, and I never said it was "the Messi team" - I always said it was Barcelona or Pep Guardiola".

"Everyone deserves to be recognised".

"I think that last season, the person who spoke most about appreciating the way Tottenham play was me. It wasn't disrespectful for myself".

And although Pochettino feels the comments from the Spanish boss are disrespectful, the Tottenham manager says that his players have seen the amusing side. "But we need to move on".

"Maybe I can answer something where I attack my team or my club, but never would I be disrespectful about Mauricio or Tottenham".

"I think it's a sad comment because the players laugh about that". But if you're a manager, you must show more - be above this type of comment.

"It's hard to understand because he was part of the big success in Barcelona when it was Messi at his best", Pochettino said at a press conference. "It is not right in today's football when we want to show fair play and respect". "I am sure I will reply".

"It was amusing when I heard him the other day because I know Pep very well", the Argentine said during his Bournemouth pre-match press conference.
