Time US taught 'new' lessons: Iran Armed Forces

Iranian officials are slamming an anticipated decision from the United States to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) a terrorist organization, saying that with such a move, the USA would be "joining the terrorists' camp".

According to the reports, the U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization in the coming days. While the Revolutionary Guards itself has never been listed as a terrorist organization by the USA, individuals and groups associated with it have.

On Monday night, there was the rare sight of Iran's urbane, globe-trotting foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, alongside Guards commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari appearing together for reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Tehran. Jafari says the United States would have to move its military bases in the region outside the 1,250-mile range of the Revolutionary Guards' missiles. But Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi threatened a "firm, decisive and crushing" response if it went ahead.

"Diplomatic language is different to the language of defence forces but the content and the objective is the same", Jafari said.

Trump has repeatedly bashed a deal signed a year ago by Iran and leading world powers curbing Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

If Trump declines to certify the Iran deal, US congressional leaders would have 60 days to decide whether to reimpose sanctions on Tehran suspended under the agreement.

"The IRGC is not just a military unit, but it has been in the hearts of the (Iranian) people and has defended our national interests in all times of danger", he stressed.

"It seems the Trump administration understands only swear words, and needs some shocks to understand the new meaning of power in the world", said Iranian armed forces spokesman Masoud Jazayeri, who is also a Revolutionary Guards commander.

"If American officials make such a strategic mistake, the Islamic Republic of Iran will take a reciprocal measure", Zarif said on Monday, adding, "Some measures have been thought out in this regard and will be taken at the appropriate time".

Neither the State Department or White House would confirm to the Free Beacon plans to follow through with this designation, prompting speculation that the process may be held up over objections by Obama-era holdovers in the Trump administration who view the move as a shot at dismantling the former president's nuclear deal.
