Las Vegas police officers describe storming gunman's room

A newly uncovered court testimony from 2013 revealed new details about Stephen Paddock, the gunman who killed 58 people in Las Vegas last week before turning a gun on himself.

In addition to killing 58 people in his attack, Paddock injured at least 489 others before taking his own life.

That contradicts what had been said last Wednesday by Lombardo, who claimed that Campos had approached Paddock while he was firing at around 10:15pm.

Video shot of the pandemonium that erupted when Paddock started strafing the festival showed a muzzle flash from his room at the Mandalay Bay resort, but bullets weren't visible in the night sky. He was shot in the leg at 9:59, about six minutes before Paddock opened fire on the concert.

So many phones, backpacks, lawn chairs, and other items were left behind that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has divided the huge crime scene into four quadrants, releasing items from only one of them at a time, starting on Sunday, FBI Victims Services chief Paul Flood said.

But on Monday, the timeline changed.

Hurricane Nate is expected to be a category 2 storm as it makes landfall around Gulfport, Miss., sometime early Sunday morning. The Storm Surge Watch has been discontinued east of the Okaloosa/Walton County Line to Indian Pass.

In the first week of August, Paddock reserved rooms at an upscale hotel overlooking Chicago's Grant Park during Lollapalooza, one of the nation's largest outdoor music festivals, a law enforcement source said.

On Monday, Lombardo said security guard Jesus Campos was in a hallway of the Mandalay Bay hotel responding to a report of an open door when he heard drilling from Stephen Craig Paddock's room.

"We still do not have a clear motive or reason", a frustrated Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said on Friday.

"Every piece of information we get is one more piece of the puzzle in this case", Lombardo said. The hotel leaders then contacted police to share their findings.

However, the authorities do not know what made him stop shooting, as yet, the CNN reported.

Lombardo said police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, including behavioral profilers, still haven't found a particular event in Paddock's life that might have triggered the shooting.

"This individual and this attack didn't leave the sort of immediately accessible thumbprints that you find on some mass casualty attacks", McCabe said. "So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there", he said. Paddock bought 33 guns, mostly rifles, during that period, an ATF spokesperson said.

It's typical for first ladies to be more popular than their husbands, who are called upon to sound off on a host of hard issues. So the reporters were understandably anxious to understand precisely what kind of storm his forecast predicted.

After searches of Paddock's belongings by investigators, it was determined that he was in possession of a substance commonly used to build improvised explosive devices, however it was not found in the form of an explosive when it was found. Investigators also found aluminium nitrate and aluminium powder.

"I was faster barefoot and I was going to be more effective barefoot", he said. Paddock sent Danley on a trip to her native Philippines before the attack, and she was unaware of his plans and devastated when she learned of the carnage while overseas, she said in a statement.

Paddock would buy apartments, move into them to keep an eye on his investment, but "still would employ other people to talk to the tenants because he didn't want to talk to the tenants", said a real estate broker who helped Paddock sell multiple properties in California more than a decade ago.

"Everything that he had, it took him days to finish", Bitsko said.

"I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was gonna be for the crowd", officer Dave Newtown explained.

Authorities recovered 23 guns from Paddock's room, police said.

When asked if he had an accomplice, Mr Lombardo said he had the "assumption that he had to have some help at some point".

Stephen Paddock Reportedly Booked Hotel Room Overlooking Lollapalooza
Paddock appeared to have booked other hotel rooms before his deadly mass shooting rampage in Las Vegas , according to police. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said the gunman would have had to be a "superhero" to have pulled off the massacre alone.
