Jerry Jones Says He Will Bench Any Player Who

Of those NFL employees, three players and one position coach said that owners, team management or members of the coaching staffs have instructed them not to kneel or have any demonstration during the national anthem.

"Our vice president, if in his opinion, there's disrespect of the flag then he should express himself however he wants to say".

It follows US Vice President Mike Pence's decision to leave the game between San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts after several players refused to stand.

Prior to the playing of the national anthem, Jones joined every Cowboys coach and player in linking arms and taking a knee. In a statement, Pence said he will not dignify an event that disrespects the military and the US. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking.

Following other teams protesting the national anthem, Trump reportedly called Jones repeatedly imploring him to prevent the Cowboys from kneeling.

The Associated Press reports that the 74-year-old longtime owner and supporter of President Donald Trump said that the flag and anthem or more important than his team's unity.

They then stood arm-in-arm for the anthem to show their solidarity for the ongoing league-wide protests.

The protest movement gained momentum following President Donald Trump's comments at a campaign rally in Alabama on September 22, when he called for NFL owners to fire players who knelt during the national anthem before games to protest racial injustice and police violence.

Yet Jones's policy and Trump's insistence that players must stand runs counter to our nation's founding principles.

Following the Cowboys loss to the Packers, Jerry Jones said the National Football League can't leave the impression that it tolerates players disrespecting the flag and that any of his Cowboys making such displays won't play.

No Cowboys kneeled during the anthem, however, two of the Texan team's players, David Irving and Damontre Moore, raised their fists during the song's conclusion.

Trump has published a tweet in support of Jones' statement, and other teams have reportedly told their players to stand for the anthem in the future.
