CAR Says Ryanair Passengers Entitled To Refund

Ryanair, which has offered to reimburse passengers whose flights were cancelled or to find them an alternative flight, said a new list of cancelled services would be published on Monday (18 September) and that affected passengers would be notified via email.

The airline has announced cancellations of between 1,500 to 2,000 flights over the next six weeks.

While Ryanair said those whose flights were cancelled would get full refunds or alternative flights - the move has angered hundreds of passengers.

Ryanair said air traffic control delays, strikes, bad weather and a backlog of annual leave to be taken by pilots and cabin crew has led to punctuality falling to below 80 per cent over the last two weeks.

Ryanair said on Friday it would cut 2% of scheduled flights until October 31, but initially only released details of flights that were to be cancelled over the weekend.

Ryanair responded by releasing a list of cancelled flights until Thursday, September 21.

So why is Ryanair cancelling its flights?

And after being door-stepped by Sky News at Ryanair HQ in Dublin, O'Leary said anyone who is "entitled to compensation will receive compensation".

Rival Norwegian Air, which recently launched budget flights from Edinburgh to the U.S., has employed 140 Ryaniar pilots this year and is now advertising for its new Dublin base. Kiely added that by cancelling flights until Ryanair's winter schedule starts in early November, the carrier can restore punctuality to a target of 90 percent.

Customers can check online for a list of canceled flights through September 20.

Ryanair has so far also gone on to say that unless informed by word of an e-mail, customers were to assume that their flight had not been affected.

If Ryanair has informed you of the cancellation with more than two weeks' notice, you will not be entitled to compensation. Even if it is only the outbound portion of the flight that is cancelled, you can still get a refund for the return leg, assuming you do not want to use it.
