Coutinho lifts the lid on 'difficult' Barcelona saga

Coutinho lifts the lid on 'difficult' Barcelona saga

Coutinho started for the Reds in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Burnley, and next up is a League Cup clash away to Leicester City on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Brazil worldwide was Barcelona's key transfer target but Liverpool rejected multiple bids from the La Liga side, saying the player was not for sale.

His temporary absence is a serious blow to the Reds, as many consider him to be the club's most important player and if they were to lose him on a permanent basis it would arguably be felt much greater than the prospect of losing Coutinho.

The 25-year-old moved to Anfield from Southampton in a deal costing a reported £34m in the summer of 2016.

Jurgen Klopp remains confident that Coutinho can continue to excel in a Liverpool shirt as the club competes in the Champions League following their top-four finish last season. But it's also a great honour to be here.

Richardson added that Coutinho "now fears his dream Camp Nou move is scuppered" as the Catalans' attention has moved on to Mane.
