Ryanair cancels about 2000 flights over six weeks

Ryanair will cancel up to 50 flights a day in the next six weeks in an attempt to improve punctuality. We have messed up in the planning of pilot holidays and we're working hard to fix that.

In a statement, Chief Marketing Director Kenny Jacobs said the airline apologises to "the small number of passengers affected" and said they can take a full refund or travel on a later flight.

Passengers on affected flights will receive a text message or email, Ryanair said.

Even customers who had not received a message to say their flight was cancelled vowed never to book with Ryanair again, claiming their holiday had been ruined due to the "uncertainty".

In a statement, the carrier says: "Ryanair has operated at record schedule and traffic levels during the peak summer months. but has a backlog of crew leave which must be allocated before December 31st 2017".
