New tropical storm likely in the Atlantic

The latest forecast from the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, "At 1100 AM AST [1500 UTC], the center of Tropical Storm Jose was located near latitude 24.9 North, longitude 66.6 West".

The forecasters said Jose is expected to regain hurricane status later Friday, but in several days it's expected to weaken again.

The NHC is predicting a more southerly track for the pair than Hurricane Jose, which seems to be headed into the Atlantic, far from our Irma-battered shores.

The coast will see some higher surf, risky rip currents and possiblly some rain Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

The hurricane, a Category 1 system with winds of 75 miles per hour, is moving 6 miles per hour.

Spain remained 11th, England dropped to 15th and Italy, beaten 3-0 in Madrid this month, slipped five places to 17th. FIFA have approved the procedure for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia final draw, to be held in Moscow on December 1.

Waves churned up by the storm are affecting the Southeast U.S. coast as well as Bermuda, the Bahamas and Puerto Rico and will spread toward the Mid-Atlantic coast over the next few days.

There's an 18 percent chance of tropical storm-force winds in New York City between Tuesday and Wednesday, said Jeff Masters, co-founder of Weather Underground in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The cone shows the probable track of the center of a storm over a five-day period.

"Even though Jose will not come close to any landmass through at leastMonday, it will generate large swells that will propagate away from the hurricane", Kottlowski said.

AccuWeather Inc. sees the storm passing within 200 miles of the Northeast, though landfall in New England during the middle of the week can't be ruled out, senior meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said in a statement.

Chainsaw-Wielding Nun Cleaning Up After Hurricane
Sister Ann says that "I don't see myself as the important one" and that "I had the chainsaw, and I was able to help out. Via FaceTime, she has been talking to them, easing the concerns of her community in Los Angeles, she said.

Forecasters caution that the track of Jose should be watched.

The storm is being steered by a high pressure ridge to the north.

In the Atlantic, Jose formed in the wake of Irma, the huge and deadly storm that ravaged islands in the Caribbean before bringing a massive storm surge and heavy rains to Florida and neighboring states.

As they become tropical storms, each will earn a name; the first to do so will be given the name Lee, while the second will be given Maria.

Unfortunately, despite extreme tropical fatigue, climatology shows that the hurricane season is just over half done by mid-September, with six more very risky weeks to go from here.
