When Will My Power Be Back? FPL Urges Patience

Almost 65% of utility customers in Florida, or 6.7 million, were without power Monday evening as Irma passed over the northern part of state and into Georgia as a tropical storm, the state's disaster agency said.

Some Florida utilities, including FPL, had warned customers it could take weeks to restore power in the hardest hit areas. Georgia Power serves 2.5 million customers.

In Georgia, utilities reported around 1.2 million customers without power Tuesday morning, down from a peak of more than 1.4 million on Monday night.

FPL said it has an army of 19,500 workers, including crews from other utilities outside the state, working to get power back to its customers in 35 counties, literally every county it operates in.

Irma has knocked out power to 6.5 million Florida electricity customers, or almost two-thirds of the state, since making landfall this weekend. A total of nearly 4.5 million Florida Power & Light customers have been affected by the storm, with about 1 million getting service restored, mostly by automated devices.
