The resolution does not include sanctions the United States wanted on North Korea's national airline and the army.

Ever wondered what the city of Pyongyang looks like?

When commenting on the adoption of new sanctions, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said the "strong relationship" between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping played a major factor in passing the resolution. However, she also clarified that the USA wants a peaceful resolution to this conflict and doesn't want to go to war with Pyongyang, which is quite a contrast from her earlier stand when she had said the North Korea was "begging for war".

McCain to North Korea: Aggression will lead to 'extinction'
At stake is whether China and Russian Federation would allow much tougher sanctions against North Korea , such as caps on exports. Conversely, the US must deal with the bellicose rhetoric from North Korea which routinely threatens to strike the United States.

"Look, I worry first and foremost about the threat from North Korea, in the sense that we have a place that is now in the cusp of having the capacity we'd hope they'd never have", Pompeo continued, "with a leader who makes decisions, at the very least, in a very, very tight circle, in which we have limited access".

It called on Pyongyang to "respect worldwide law and to put an irreversible and verifiable end to its nuclear program". If it proves it can live in peace, the world will live in peace with it. The North Korean regime has not yet passed the point of no-return", Haley told the council, adding: "If North Korea continues its unsafe path, we will continue with further pressure. "The choice is theirs".

"A compromise that does not include direct sanctions on Kim Jong-un and a complete ban on crude oil exports was passed", Rep. Chung Woo-taik, the main opposition Liberty Korea Party floor leader said. However, these proposals were dropped later.

Russian smugglers are illicitly supplying North Korea with contraband energy and goods, evading sanctions and ignoring concerns about the isolated Asian country's nuclear tests, the Washington Post reported Monday. It also bans North Korean exports of textiles, a $726 million industry, and phases out North Korea's overseas labor program, which sends 93,000 North Koreans abroad to work in near slave conditions and send their pay back to the regime. The United States has said that a previous rounds of sanctions agreed in August were aimed at cutting North Korea's $3 billion in exports by a third.

Pyongyang claims it tested a hydrogen bomb capable of sitting atop a ballistic missile. "There will always be holes", she said. North Korea has been hit by a new set of United Nations sanctions following the country's latest nuclear test on 3 September.

Monday's resolution added just Workers' Party of Korea Central Military Commission member Pak Yong Sik, the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, the party's Organization and Guidance Department and its Propaganda and Agitation Department to the sanctions list. The foreign ministry had said that if the United States "does rig up the illegal and unlawful 'resolution, '" it will have to face consequences.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is "ready to use a form of ultimate means", Han said without elaborating.

Pyongyang sees Resolution 2375 of the UN Security Council as a challenge for the DPRK, the document violates the country's sovereignty, North Korean Ambassador to Russia Kim Hyong Jun told a news conference in Moscow on Tuesday.
