UN Security Council slaps new sanctions on North Korea

At least three other shops in Dandong admitted that they sell products, including shellfish, from North Korea. Pyongyang opened its embassy in Peru in the 1980s during the first government of former President Alan Garcia, which bought weapons from North Korea at a discount for police. It is a hermit regime nearly completely closed off from other states intentionally for the sake of the regime. This is an area that the Trump administration has been trying to target because North Korea makes a lot of money by sending what's effectively slave labor overseas.

A tactical nuclear weapon, which is created to be used against battlefield targets, generally travels across short ranges and carries a low-yield warhead.

China nurtured the regime as it is, and China maintains it.

Bitcoin and other forms of virtual money - known as cryptocurrencies - appeal to North Korea as the US pursues global sanctions aimed at further isolating the country, according to a new report from FireEye.

And yet we can not excuse our own role in allowing North Korea to become what it has become. And today the Security Council is saying that if the North Korean regime does not halt its nuclear program, we will act to stop it ourselves. China has also realized that it naively thought it could control its Frankenstein pit-bull, but it now is realizing it has to confront hard decisions. And lest China think that somehow there are joint interests to be accommodated, that is not the case.

Kim was threatening to lob a couple of missiles onto Guam. North Korea, for now anyway, does not threaten China, but it does threaten us. "The South Korean authorities are maintaining various channels of communication with their USA counterparts and discussing the situation". "There is a long way to go before North Korea is going to feel the pressure they would need to feel to change their calculus". But he said trying to stop goods and material flowing from China to North Korea without United Nations backing would substitute a U.S.

"We now have more tools in our toolbox and we will continue to use them to put additional sanctions on North Korea until they stop this behavior".

"We're looking at sanctions across the European Union, and of course we're trying to persuade China to keep its neighbour in check". If it will not do this of its own volition and bring its pit-bull to heel, we have two options.

The North Korean state media also reported on Sunday that a concert was held at the national theatre in Pyongyang, attended by the leader and his wife Ri Sol-ju, in honour of the scientists and military personnel who were involved in the nuclear test.

He called on anyone aware of efforts to enable North Korean trade to come forward before getting caught, warning: "We are closing in on North Korea's trade representatives".

United Kingdom ambassador weighs in on UN's new North Korea sanctions
The UN sanctions passed against North Korea on Monday bans textile exports and restricts shipments of oil products to Pyongyang. Peru's envoy, Maria Antonia Masana Garcia, said North Korea's ambassador to her country would be considered persona non grata.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is "ready to use a form of ultimate means", he said without elaborating.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi refused to get into specifics, observing that: "Given the new developments on the Korean peninsula, China agrees that the UN Security Council should make a further response and take necessary measures".

MCEVERS: Oh, OK. So what's left in this draft then?

"The DPRK has developed and perfected the super-powerful thermo-nuclear weapon as a means to deter the ever-increasing hostile moves and nuclear threat of the USA and defuse the danger of nuclear war looming over the Korean peninsula and the region". It would eliminate a longtime, troublesome opponent, erase a Chinese buffer state, strengthen Washington's ally, the Republic of Korea, and expand USA containment of Beijing. The result could be millions of refugees flooding across the Yalu River into China, a civil war and fighting that overflows the border, loose nuclear weapons, and other risky consequences.

According to a recent study by the Nautilus Institute think-tank, a massive cutback in the flow of oil from China would definitely hurt the North Korean economy, and especially average citizens.
