South Korea confirms traces of radioactive gas from North Korea's nuclear test

China's Big Four state-owned banks have stopped providing financial services to new North Korean clients, according to branch staff, amid US concerns that Beijing has not been tough enough over Pyongyang´s repeated nuclear tests.

NORTH KOREA's regime on Monday said that the United States would pay the "due price" for spearheading a UN Security Council resolution against the rogue state's latest nuclear test.

The respected 38 North website in the USA raised its estimate for the yield from the explosion, which Pyongyang says was a hydrogen bomb small enough to fit onto a missile, to around 250 kilotons - more than 16 times the size of the device that devastated Hiroshima in 1945.

However, experts and some governments, including Japan, also have said that the blast was likely of a hydrogen bomb, which is also known as a thermonuclear weapon.

North Korea has continued to provoke worldwide ire after a notable uptick in its military program this year beginning with the country's successful tests of two intercontinental ballistic missiles in July, which experts say are capable of reaching the mainland United States.

The US Geological Service put the magnitude of the resulting quake at 6.3, and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) and Norwegian agency NORSAR had raised their initial figures to 6.1.

Blue Jays go for sweep of Orioles
He is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA against Toronto this season and 4-3, 3.30 in 17 games (12 starts) in his career against the Blue Jays. Stroman returned six days later and allowed six hits and four runs in six innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said last week that Tokyo had estimated the explosive yield of the blast to be 160 kilotons - more than 10 times the size of the Hiroshima bomb.

North Korean hackers have mounted attacks on at least three South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges since May, security researcher FireEye said in a report Monday.

Monday's USA -drafted sanctions resolution, which passed unanimously, includes a ban on textile exports and a restriction on the shipments of oil products, among other measures.

Russian Federation and China both say they respect United Nations sanctions.

China, which is estimated to account for roughly 90% of North Korea's foreign trade, has been repeatedly criticized by experts for not doing enough to implement previous United Nations sanctions. "We think it's just another very small step - not a big deal". "But those sanctions are nothing compared to what ultimately will have to happen".

Shortly after the nuke test, Seoul announced it reached an agreement with Washington to remove the warhead weight limits on South Korean ballistic missiles, which under a bilateral guideline could be built for a maximum range of 800 kilometers (497 miles).

Spain prosecutors threaten to arrest Catalan pro-referendum mayors
In a survey by the Catalan Centre of Opinion Studies in July, 41.1 percent backed independence while 49.9 percent rejected it. The following year the demonstration took the shape of a giant "V" for "vote" down two of the main avenues of Barcelona.

They also reduce by about a third the amount of oil North Korea can import.

"The DPRK condemns in the strongest terms and categorically rejects the ... sanctions as a product of heinous provocation aimed at depriving the DPRK of its legitimate right for self-defence and completely suffocating its state and people through full-scale economic blockade", it said.

The North says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself from "hostile" USA forces and analysts believe Pyongyang's weapons programme has made rapid progress under leader Kim Jong-Un, with previous sanctions having done little to deter it.

Pyongyang has staged a series of missile tests in recent months that appeared to bring much of the United States mainland into range, followed by the September 3 nuclear blast.

The commission could not confirm what kind of nuclear test the North conducted, he added.
