FPL Expects Power Back on by End of Weekend in South Florida

FPL Expects Power Back on by End of Weekend in South Florida

That's what Gus Beyersdorf, 40, and his colleague Nick Jensen, 32, utility workers from Wisconsin, found out while inspecting power lines in Florida on Monday.

Rogers added that Gulf Power sent additional lineworkers from the western end of the company's service area to Bay County to ensure there were enough resources to get the lights back on quickly and safely for Gulf Power's customers. "We expected to see more extensive damage on the west coast".

Floridians who've lost electricity because of Hurricane Irma received another setback Tuesday afternoon when utility Florida Power and Light's website and smartphone app both crashed.

Gould said there would be a daily briefing from the company. "Many remember what it was like after Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and they are anxious to restore power and hope to those that have lost so much". That's led to fewer outages in Germany, CNN reports - but then again, the northern European county doesn't deal with hurricanes.

North Korea Sanctions: Brace For 'Worst Case Scenario'
China Construction Bank (CCB) has "completely prohibited business with North Korea", a bank teller at the company told Reuters . Pyongyang warned the United States on Monday that it would pay a "due price" for spearheading efforts on U.N. sanctions.

"We know it's extremely uncomfortable and we're asking you for your patience", Gould said. We're trying to tell customers that they don't need to call us. "But as the days move forward, you will see those numbers slow in their decline".

About 2.8 million homes and businesses serviced by FPL remained without power Tuesday.

After a major storm, it's FPL's priority to restore power to grids with critical infrastructure such as law enforcement agencies, fire stations and hospitals. Many of them have come from other states to assist in the effort.

The utility invested almost $3 billion to upgrade its electric grid since 2005, and Gould said it is paying off. Power feeders that were hardened are performing about 30 percent better than non-hardened ones. "Men in hard hats are attractive!" said one of the women, obviously just joking with the Wisconsin men, but also making it clear that she would like it if they would get the power turned back on at her house.

People stand next to palm trees as they look at churning waves and high winds along Hollywood Beach, Fla., September 9, 2017 . In the Orlando area, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World all were closing Saturday.

"The length of the restoration will be far less than what it would have been if we had not invested in the system", he said.

As for the the east coast of Florida, president and CEO Eric Silagy said there would be "more traditional repairs".

"We know the weather has cleared, it's sunny out, and patience will wear thin", he said.

JJ Abrams Returns To Direct Star Wars 9 Replacing Colin Trevorrow
So long as it's better than the Star Wars Holiday Special, there's nothing wrong with Star Wars during the holidays. The most corporate time of year will continue to be ruled by the original mega toy brand for the foreseeable future.
