Barcelona: Explosives experts checking van near Sagrada Familia cathedral

Several blocks around the iconic Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona have been sealed off by the police, who have also shut down the nearby metro station, in what they say is an anti-terrorist operation.

Specialist bomb disposal experts have been sent to the area, reportedly to investigate a suspicious package inside a van parked close to the church.

"It is a false alarm". No arrests were made, the police said on Twitter.

Spanish media said locals and tourists were ordered away from cafe and bar terraces and told to take refuge inside premises.

The counter-terror operation comes less than a month after Barcelona was hit by a terror attack that killed 13 people and injured 130 others.

So far 20 people have been arrested related to the scam and more than 24 FIR's have been filed in connection with the scam including 10 FIR's by CBI.

The group changed plans after explosive material intended for the attack was destroyed in an accidental blast.
