Army denies killing IPOB members in Abia

SCORES of supporters of leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, were said to have been wounded when armed soldiers allegedly invaded his home at Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State, on Sunday.

The soldiers arrived the community on Tuesday barely 48 hours after the clash between the Army and IPOB members on Sunday evening.

The development has caused panic in the area, forcing shop owners to close immediately.

According to Oyebade, the soldiers were shooting sporadically, which led to the IPOB members drawing out daggers and throwing broken bottles on them.

However a statement from the Army says the report is "far from the truth".

"The troops fired warning shots in the air and the hoodlums dispersed. Both the soldier and the innocent female passerby have been evacuated to the unit's Medical Inspection Room and are receiving treatment", he added.

"Members of the public are please requested to go about their lawful businesses and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security outfit".
