Abe: Japan to Upgrade Joint Defense System with US

Mr Modi, an active user of social media, used the micro blogging site to welcome Mr Abe ahead of his two-day visit to Ahmedabad beginning tomorrow to inaugurate the much awaited Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe will lay the foundation stone for India's first high-speed train between Ahmedabad-Mumbai during the latter's visit to India starting Wednesday.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's standing committee chairman Pravin Patel said a large number of people, including singing troupes who will be performing at 28 different locations along the route, will greet Modi and Abe.

"PM @AbeShinzo and I will attend a wide range of programmes on 13th and 14th September 2017, aimed at further boosting India-Japan ties", he added.

The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train will set the pace of running trains at speeds of over 250 km per hour, covering the 508-km distance in just two hours and seven minutes as against the existing travel time of 7-8 hours.

Both Modi and Abe are expected to land at Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
