Hurricane Jose expected to weaken over next 48 hours

Jose is expected to continue this general motion and speed over the next 24 hours. The rest kept the storm out to sea.

However, after Monday night, Jose may slam on the brakes hard, ceasing almost all forward motion, likely setting up a roller-coaster-like path that will take the storm in a series of loops, circles, dips and dives over for the entirety of next week.

Elsewhere and much farther to the east, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a disturbance several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, with a 20% chance of development over the next 5 days.

Jose's future after Friday is where it gets complicated.

A complicated high-altitude environment over the Atlantic Ocean is what is causing Jose to wobble around the Atlantic.

A direct hit would be a heavy blow to the small Caribbean islands which are particularly vulnerable after being battered by Irma . It was slated to hit Antigua and other areas in the Leeward Islands have also issued received warnings to prepare for Jose.

The movement of a large area of high pressure, or clockwise flow of air in the atmosphere, will guide Jose along this week.

Jose will meander north of the Caribbean region this week and pose no danger to land for most of the workweek.

Hurricane Jose's track is raising some eyebrows as its long-range track appears to take it right toward the Southeastern U.S. coast later this week.

Current long-term forecast models for Jose are all over the map next week.

Jose won't lose much intensity during this loop to nowhere, as the storm will have plenty of warm water for fuel.

Irma headed for the southwest Florida coast
Irma's assault came after Harvey flooded Houston, for the first time the USA was hit by two Category 4 storms in the same year. Despite taking a direct hit, the island appears to have escaped some of the major damage feared by officials.

During that time, Jose will be moving generally westward then more northward. "The official forecast goes out five days due to the considerable uncertainty beyond day five", a Monday afternoon update says.

"It's important to emphasize that there is a still a lot of computer model uncertainty on Jose's next move but it still is a storm to watch for the US and Canada", he said.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
