Georgia Tech-UCF game called off because of Irma

Georgia Tech-UCF game called off because of Irma

Central Florida, which is scheduled to play football at Maryland on September 23, has called off its game for the second straight week because of Hurricane Irma.

The main reason for the Georgia Tech-UCF cancellation is that UCF is hosting up to 1,000 National Guard personnel in and around Spectrum Stadium.

The teams are looking for a way to reschedule the game.

"We are in complete agreement with the decision to cancel Saturday's game", Georgia Tech athletics director Todd Stansbury said. "On behalf of our student-athletes, athletics staff and fans, I promise the Knights will do everything we can to assist in recovery efforts".

Instead of hosting Georgia Tech this weekend, UCF will instead be hosting almost 1000 national guardsmen as the city recovers from the storm. UCF had already called off this past weekend's scheduled game against the University of Memphis due to Irma.
