University sends out safety tips for Mondays solar eclipse

You can experience the eclipse safely, but it is vital that you protect your eyes at all times with the proper solar filters.

"Your eyes will be damaged by the eclipse", explains Covenant Health Plainview ophthalmologist, Douglas Kopp, MD.

After you've appreciated the eclipse, look back down at the ground, away from the sun, then take off the glasses.

According to NASA, the eclipse begins in Plainview at 11:30 a.m. and ends 2:26 p.m., a duration of nearly 3 hours.

The sun will be obscured 72 percent in Lubbock and 78.4 percent in Amarillo.

In 1918, Arkansas saw a near total solar eclipse.

Analysts Upgrade/Downgrade Activity of Novavax, Inc. (NVAX)
Zacks Investment Research downgraded Novavax from a "buy" rating to a "hold" rating in a research note on Friday, June 9th. The business had revenue of $6.70 million during the quarter, compared to analysts' expectations of $6.15 million.

"During most new Moons when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, the Moon's orbit takes it a little bit above the plane of the Earth's orbit or a little bit below the plane of the Earth's orbit and what that means is you see the Moon passing a little bit above the Sun or a little bit below the Sun, but at least twice a year we get some type of a solar eclipse".

Halfway through the event, anyone within a roughly 70-mile-wide path from OR to SC (https://go.nasa.gov/2pC0lhe) will experience a brief total eclipse, when the moon completely blocks the sun's bright face for up to 2 minutes 40 seconds, turning day into night and making visible the otherwise hidden solar corona - the sun's outer atmosphere - one of nature's most awesome sights.

"In that case the Moon's central shadow completely misses the Earth and you only get the outer edge of the shadow, the penumbral shadow, and during that type of eclipse you see the moon move along either the top or bottom edge of the Sun but not through the middle of the Sun", he says.

Dr Espenak says the frequency of eclipses hasn't changed in thousands of years, and only immensely slow geological factors like the very gradual slowing of the Earth may make them hard to predict many thousands of years from now. The moon covering the sun disappears.

"I have been waiting nearly 40 years for this eclipse, and although I will be operating 14 cameras during totality, I will certainly take a moment to gaze at the eclipse the same way people have done for thousands of years: with wonder".

It said goggles, homemade filters and sunglasses don't have the strength to stand against the sun. They will indicate the glasses are ISO 12312-2 compliant. If you see any scratches or damage, do not use them. Read and follow any instructions printed on or packaged with the filter.

Because of this, Lil Dicky said that if he were James, he would "despise Gilbert for a variety of reasons". The Golden State Warriors superstar was on Twitter Wednesday talking about James' possible departure.

The eclipse cuts a swath across the country from the Pacific Northwest to the coastal Southeast, so there's no way we can include every big eclipse viewing event or post-eclipse party.

Dairy Queen: From Aug. 21 to September 3, you'll be able to buy one Blizzard and get one for $0.99, which somehow involves the eclipse.

If it's cloudy and you're attempting to see totality: It will just get dark out.

If you'll have children with you, please supervise them at all times while viewing the eclipse to make sure they are following the same safety guidelines when watching the eclipse.

Do not look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device. This is important even if you are wearing eclipse glasses or holding a solar viewer at the same time.

Monday forecast calls for mostly sunny skies in Plainview with only a few high clouds.

In hindsight, the way that the Buffalo offense started was a clue that Watkins was being showcased to other teams. But McCoy still has his eye on a deep postseason run with a team that hasn't won a playoff game since 1995.
