North Korea 'will regret it fast' if acts against US ally

Late on Friday, islanders watched TV footage of Guam's governor Eddie Calvo taking a phone call from President Trump, who assured him the U.S. territory will be "one thousand per cent safe".

Though local officials downplayed any threat, people who live and work on the island, which serves as a launching pad for the USA military, said Wednesday they could no longer shrug off the idea of being a potential target.

In another statement citing a different military spokesman, North Korea also said it could carry out a pre-emptive operation if the U.S. showed signs of provocation.

"Ever since I served [in the] military ten years ago, (the North Korean threat) has been continuing, and South Korean men who served in the military have developed an understanding about North Korean provocations, so we get used to it", said Seoul resident Jang Min-seok.

However, he added that an attack on Guam "won't just be against the U.S. military, it will be against the people". "I feel safe with our military presence here - Andersen and the Navy".

Mr. Trump this week vowed to rain "fire and fury like the world has never seen" down on North Korea if it threatened the United States.

Trump issued a new threat against North Korea Friday morning saying the country's military is 'locked and loaded'.

"You know what, that could looks so handsome to me", Trump said. So I think South Korea is very happy. Guam elects a delegate to the U.S. House, but that delegate isn't allowed to vote on a bill's final passage.

The U.S. military owns about a third of the land here and has both an Air Force and naval base on Guam.

Koji Tsuruoka, the Japanese ambassador to the United Kingdom, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "If there is any provocation, it all comes from North Korea". I also want to remind national media that Guam is American soil and we have 200,000 Americans in Guam and the Marianas. "It's a propaganda, that's how I feel", he said but added that the military offered an extra reassurance.

Azad, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, said this was a big question, as either the PM or the RBI was lying. Kashmiris are observing Black Day on India's Indepence Day to protest the illegal occupation of India.

Whether or not North Korea follows through with its threat, which is really just an announcement of the intention to create a plan to present to Kim, it has already dealt a severe blow to the US's credibility.

On the streets of Guam capital Hagatna, there was a sense of calm.

During a news conference Friday, Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo said that despite the fiery rhetoric from Washington and Pyongyang, the island is "safe and sound", the Pacific Daily News reported.

Guam is armed with the U.S. Army's defense system known as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, which can intercept missiles.

And the president warned the United States would strongly retaliate against any attack on Guam.
