China will back North Korea if the USA strikes first against its neighbour and ideological ally, but if Pyongyang initiates hostilities and prompts a U.S. response, China will stay neutral, the state-run Global Times newspaper said in a commentary. No doubt, the country's nuclear missile development has progressed at a faster pace than anticipated by the USA government.

Representatives at both the South Korean embassy and Japanese embassies in Washington, D.C., did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheBlaze on Friday.

Klingner previously told TheBlaze that when it comes to North Korea, the U.S.is "in it for the long haul". Politico's Peter Harrell pointed out that "North Korea is heavily integrated with the Chinese economy, and North Korea also trades with India, Pakistan, Russia, Angola, Saudi Arabia and other countries".

The United Nations Security Council voted this month to hit Pyongyang with new sanctions, yet Trump still has wasted no time launching his own verbal assault.

South Korea and Japan are accustomed to the North's frequent threats to attack.
