Trump Expected to Officially Declare the Opioid Crisis a 'National Emergency'

Trump's announcement came two days after his top health official threw cold water on Christie's idea of declaring a national emergency. Chris Christie said that he is "proud" of President Donald Trump for declaring the country's opioid crisis a national emergency, which will give the green light for much-needed tools and resources. According to these states, their declarations have helped them fight the crisis, but whether that's likely to be the case for the nation as a whole will depend on how Trump's administration chooses to use its emergency resources.

Still, Price stressed that "all things" were "on the table for the president".

Latvala said he would work to push more state money into the gap left by lawmakers this year.

But even if his administration comes up with a way to accomplish that, it won't resolve the current raging opioid epidemic, which continues to claim about 145 lives every day, about 10 a day in Pennsylvania.
