Scolari confirms €40m Paulinho transfer to Barcelona

Brazilian worldwide midfielder Paulinho is expected to become Barcelona's first signing since losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, according to widespread reports in the Spanish media on Saturday.

Guangzhou will profit most from the sale of Paulinho, having originally bought the Brazil global from Spurs for £10m, while six of Paulinho's former clubs are also set to benefit from the 29-year-old's move. Several European newspapers have indicated that Guangzhou have accepted Barca's offer, so Paulinho will head to Camp Nou for a reported fee close to €40 million.

Villas-Boas believes that, while Paulinho's move will be a setback for Guangzhou Evergrande, the transfer shows that the Chinese Super League is being monitored by the world's biggest clubs.

This is probably the easiest one I've had to prep for because I know the golf course so well and I've been up here a lot. That could leave the final major of the year up for grabs over the final 36 holes on the weekend, but not for everybody.

Head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said: "Paulinho is a fantastic player who has a brilliant track record both in club and national team".

The Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, but failed to repay the £17m Spurs forked out for him, scoring 10 goals in 67 appearances before departing for the Chinese Super League in 2015.

"'We wish him all the best and that he can embrace a bright future".

As for sales, the clubs of the English Premier League released players in the amount of 570 million pounds. "It won't be easy. It's a great challenge for us to try and retain the title, but we are working hard", he added.

Though previously looked at as more of a defensive midfielder, he's become a very good box-to-box midfielder and scored a hat trick for Brazil in March in the 4-1 trashing of Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.

With Barcelona set to make the first major signing of the summer transfer window with Paulinho set to arrive in Spain to secure the deal, the manger of his previous club has bidden him farewell.
