National Football League could still investigate Ezekiel Elliott bar incident

National Football League could still investigate Ezekiel Elliott bar incident

The Cowboys are bracing for Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension, but that won't stop Dallas from playing their star running back during the preseason. He released a statement Friday saying he was "surprised and disappointed" by the suspension.

"I admit that I am far from flawless, but I plan to continue to work very hard, on and off the field, to mature and earn the great opportunity that I have been given".

In a letter to Elliott, the National Football League cited incidents of domestic violence reported by Thompson to police in Columbus, Ohio, during July 2016. The Columbus City Attorney's office announced in September that it would not pursue charges against Elliott because of "conflicting and inconsistent information", but the National Football League can penalize a player even without legal charges.

Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas said the suspect was taken into custody not far from the crash site. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city and police ordered the crowds to disperse.

The NFL, though, still has the authority to punish players under its personal conduct policy.

If the NFL determines that there is enough evidence that Elliott was responsible for the punch, there is a chance the Cowboys running back could face further league discipline. But Elliott and his representation plan to fight the suspension arduously. The threat from the league means that Elliott needs to stay out of trouble.

"Mr. Elliott and his team of representatives are extremely disappointed with the NFL's decision", Elliott's lawyers said.

Perhaps we've got to ensure that all our players give their all and hope that City are off-colour, but it can happen that way. If you think about Antonio Conte , Pep Guardiola , Jurgen Klopp and Mourinho - it is a very good championship now.

Ezekiel Elliott will miss the Cowboys first six games of the season.

Elliott is appealing the suspension and could pursue other legal measures to get it reduced or overturned.
