Brewers acquire 2B Neil Walker from Mets

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the Brewers and Mets were "close" on a deal sending Walker to Milwaukee. Facing that reality, the Brewers have acquired Neil Walker from the New York Mets, with New York paying a portion of his remaining $5 Million in salary.

Walker is in his second season with the Mets and slashed.264/.339/.442 with 10 home runs and a.780 OPS over 299 PA in 2017. The Mets are officially in rebuild mode after dealing Lucas Duda, Addison Reed, Jay Bruce and Walker in the span of a couple weeks.

"A first-rate guy", Sandy Alderson said of Walker. "I'm very glad we had him for the time we did and I think he distinguished himself as a Met". While a deadline deal with the Yankees was in the works, it fell through at the last minute due to concerns about his medical records. He missed time this season after suffering a torn hamstring.

"I am confused as to why I am sitting here having to answer questions about my health for something that didn't happen", Walker said on Friday.

Walker has struggled to stay healthy in the past.

The Brewers entered Saturday at 59-59 and three games back in a tight NL Central race.

In 51 career games at Miller Park, he is batting.286 (59-for-206) with 11 HR and 31 RBI.

Walker arrived in NY in a December 2015 trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Jon Niese. For the Mets, this gives them more of a chance to see what they have in Amed Rosario while playing Asdrubal Cabrera at second.
