Jose Mourinho: 'I will not cry over transfers'

Jose Mourinho: 'I will not cry over transfers'

United were overly reliant last term on Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored 17 league goals and 28 all told before a cruciate knee ligament cut short his season in April and whom Mourinho confirmed on Friday the club were in talks about re-signing for the second half of the new campaign.

'He is injured and he needs time to recover, ' said Mourinho.

"It's not something urgent, it's nothing that you are desperate to have it done or not done".

"I don't think I'm in a position of crying, moaning, protesting".

"Yes, we can (win the title), Europa League is not Champions League, obviously it is more difficult to win the Champions League than the Europa League but also motivation is higher, also my hard work last season to motivate the Europa League with ambition and commitment and responsibility, my work was hard at that level".

"But we have lost important players to injury too, such as Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic".

"I am happy with the effort the club did", the 54-year-old Portuguese said. "I understand the reality of the market, the numbers and my club by doing 75% of what I asked, the club did well".

"I will just go with everything I have to try to win every match we play". Victor can play right-back and can play central midfield.

He added that, "The great leaders I've seen don't threaten unless they're ready to act, and I'm not sure President Trump is ready to act".

"But we have players and if we cannot strengthen the team in these areas, we have people that we can trust and we go for it".

Mourinho believes United are capable of winning a title in his second season, but is not kidding himself over the challenge that awaits them domestically.

"I have conditions to deliver a better team than I did in the first season".

The ex-Chelsea boss threw his winners' medal into the crowd following their Premier League triumph in 2006 and also gave away his medal following the 2015 Community shield. "But the top seven, we are going to be in the four competitions and so there is no advantage for any one of us".
