Bolt calls on cheats to clean up act for sake of athletics

Bolt has raced only three times this season, and last month appeared to be struggling with a back injury, but he insisted he was still the man to beat in the 100m, the qualifying rounds for which start on Friday.

The 11-times world and eight-times Olympic champion said athletics reached rock bottom after Russian Federation was booted out in 2015 over it's wide-ranging doping programme.

Meanwhile, the IAAF has voted unanimously to maintain Russia's ban from global track and field competition as there are still issues that need to be resolved regarding the country's anti-doping fight.

Coe likened the Jamaican to former world heavyweight champion and one of sport's most iconic figures Ali.

"If he runs 100m and 200m, hopefully, he'll run fast times and get some energy back and other athletes can see where they can also help", added Bolt.

"One thing I hope they understand is that we have a doping problem and if they continue in that way the sport will die and hopefully they understand that", said the 30-year-old.

Usain Bolt has warned dopers they risk killing athletics and urged them to clean up their act for the sake of the sport.

Bolt will line up in the 100m heats on Friday, with the final to be held at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
