US Senate panel summons Trump's ex-campaign manager Manafort

Grassley and Senator Dianne Feinstein issued their subpoena on Monday night, and Manafort will appear before them on Wednesday.

As Donald Trump Jr. prepares to meet with the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, he's turning to a lawyer who has deep connections inside Washington's sprawling investigatory apparatus for help.

Manafort stepped down as Trump's election campaign chief in August 2016 after revelations in Kyiv that he had received large payments linked to Ukraine's former, pro-Russian government.

Manafort is seen as a key figure in the investigation because of his senior role in the campaign and his participation in a June 2016 meeting that included Trump's son.

Trump Jr. has said that no information was provided, and much of the meeting involved discussions of an adoption program of Russian children that had been discontinued by Moscow.

Jason Maloni, a Manafort spokesman, said Manafort met "with the bipartisan staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee and answered their questions fully".

Durbin told "The Big John and Ramblin' Ray Show" on WLS that Committee chairman Republican Sen. "While the Judiciary Committee was willing to cooperate on equal terms with any other committee to accommodate Mr. Manafort's request, ultimately that was not possible".

But it later emerged that Mr Sessions had spoken to the Russian ambassador twice during the election campaign, when he was a member of the Senate Armed Services committee but not yet an official member of Mr Trump's team.

Kushner was appearing again Tuesday before the House Intelligence Committee, one of a slew of bodies investigating the allegations of Russian meddling.

The meeting with was held in June 2016 at Trump Tower.

Subpoena dropped against former Trump campaign chairman
The other person says that Manafort has agreed to additional interviews with the Senate intelligence committee staff. USA intelligence agencies have concluded that Russian Federation sought to tip the 2016 campaign in Trump's favor.


Mr Flynn initially refused to hand over documents to a Senate panel, instead pleading the fifth amendment against self-incrimination.

Although Manafort was set to appear before the intelligence committee Tuesday, the judiciary committee still issued the subpoena for Wednesday.

Manafort also recently registered with the Justice Department as a foreign agent for parts of Ukrainian work that occurred in Washington.

In an initial statement as the New York Times prepared to report that the meeting had taken place, Trump Jr. had said it was "primarily" about the issue of the adoption of Russian children by us families.
