The accused, identified as Salim Mohammad Khan, is alleged to have been involved in terrorist activities since 2008, and was also allegedly in touch with a module of operatives working for the Pakistani Inter State Services (ISI), who were arrested earlier this year.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested an alleged wanted Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) terrorist, Salim Mohammad Khan.

According to the ATS, he was deported as UAE authorities found him to be overstaying without valid docimentation. He is now being interrogated in Mumbai, IANS reported. Khan was deported to India from UAE and was picked up from the worldwide terminal of Mumbai airport early on Monday morning. "He was subsequently arrested and we are questioning him jointly with the U.P. ATS".

Khan is believed to have been trained at a terror camp in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan. Khan has been on the run ever since and had managed to hoodwink security agencies.

Eight persons were killed and five others were injured when LeT carried out a raid on 1 January 2008 at the CRFP recruitment centre at Rampur, officials of ATS teams of UP and Maharashtra said.

The ATS was keeping a trail on him since his name was revealed by Aftaab Ali, who was arrested by the ATS few months ago from communally-sensitive Faizabad. Sandeep Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was also questioned last week by the Uttar Pradesh ATS after the arrest.
