Wimbledon - Mixed Doubles: Dominant Murray and Hingis win it all

Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares lost in the second round of the men's doubles in the opening week, but the Scot has since forged a strong mixed partnership with Switzerland's Hingis.

Murray and Hingis share the winners' cheque of £100,000 while Watson and Kontinen split the £50,000 runners-up prize. Either way, a British victor is assured, a positive for home fans after the defeat of Andy Murray in the quarters and Johanna Konta in the singles semis.

With some enterprising wag in the crowd not quite knowing who to support, so shouting out a 'Come On All of You, ' it was at times a bit of a Murrray masterclass, bringing up the first break before Hingis let the side down for Watson and Kontinen to break back straight away.

Jamie Murray won a battle of Britain at Wimbledon as he and Martina Hingis overcame Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen to secure the mixed doubles title. They did a repeat in the second set - broke in the seventh game - to hold in the tenth and lift the title.

But each was saved and when Watson flashed wide a smash, all that was left was for a booming Murray serve to finish off.

Nolito completes £8m Sevilla move
However, he went on to make only nine league starts in total and none of those were in 2017. It is thought that the deal to take Nolito back to Spain is worth around €9 (£7.9m).

Murray has now won four slam trophies, eclipsing the three claimed by his younger brother.

"It's great that two Brits are in the final but it doesn't make a difference", Watson said.

And despite losing her title, Watson said she had enjoyed playing in front of such a partisan set of supporters. I was like, Oh, my God, did he read it (her text). But I think he just waited in the locker room because he said he didn't want to watch it.

"I approached Jamie because he is a very nice guy and everybody knew I had been..."

"I mean, the doubles for me is obviously my biggest goal of the year".

"I cry with Roger when he won the grand slam". Like, I knew I could do well with her.

And it proved to be a good one as a almost full Centre Court crowd gathered to see them edge out Kontinen and Watson, who tested them more than any other pair had done in the previous rounds.

She said: "We haven't felt it yet together". Hopefully we don't feel it again. But I'd love to play with Henri again, and hopefully before next year.

Watson said: "It's been a great tournament all around. I'm just happy it was mine".
