Suspicious vehicle crashes into police cruiser near Capitol

A U.S. Capitol Police officer is injured after a vehicle crashed into a barrier Monday afternoon near the Library of Congress and U.S. Capitol Building.

Authorities also closed Independence Avenue between Washington Avenue and Third Street in Southeast, Second Street between East Capitol and C streets Southeast, and Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and Second streets Southeast.

Fox News reports that it's unclear whether the two vehicles involved in the incident were connected.

Authorities said the suspect crashed a auto into the patrol cruiser and a barrier at Second Street and Independence Avenue SE at about 11:45 a.m. The incident was still ongoing shortly after 2 p.m.
