George A. Romero Dead at 77

Following his passing, fans and members of the film industry took to social media to express their sadness at the loss of a legend.

"Night of the Living Dead" became a cult classic and launched the zombie genre of movies. According to Variety, he was battling with lung cancer.

Romero's longtime producing partner Peter Grunwald confirmed the news to the Los Angeles Times Sunday.

The director passed away with his wife and his daughter at his side after a "brief but aggressive battle" with lung cancer.

Brokers Add To Their Ratings On Encana Corporation (NYSE:ECA)

Despite that, expect the likes of Kirkman, Zack Snyder and many others who rose to fame and fortune working with the undead to offer up their tributes to the man who really started the whole zombie craze.

Amid his death, Romero is leaving his loving family behind and as well as his supportive friends.

Horror director, Eli Roth, said: "Hard to quantify how much he inspired me & what he did for cinema".

He wrote: "Sad to hear my favourite collaborator - and good old friend - George Romero has died".

Health care battle reveals a moral divide among Republicans
He is at home with his family and, "on the advice of his doctors", will be recovering in Arizona this week, a spokeswoman said. Paul's reasons for opposing the bill are very different from Collins'; he says it retains too much of the Affordable Care Act.

He directed several sequels and worked on other projects, including writing the story for the 1973 film The Crazies and directing the 1981 film Knightriders. He was both ahead of his time and exactly what cinema needed at that time.

Absolutely heartbreaking news as George A. Romero, the godfather of zombie films, has passed away at age 77. The infectious bite. Shoot the head.

Romero spent most of his life in Pittsburgh, which now hosts an annual Zombie Fest and is sometimes called the "Zombie Capital of the World", the Hollywood Reporter notes. He is also the reason why he found meaning in monsters. Thank you for making me afraid. Thank you. I love you.

"Night of the Living Dead" was added by the Library of Congress in 1999 to its National Film Registry for works considered "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
