Gard spokesperson: Baby Charlie is effectively 'a prisoner of the state'

Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital argue that a new treatment won't help and could make the child suffer.

A British consultant has criticised the "magic potion" treatment being offered by an American doctor who is flying to the United Kingdom tomorrow to examine Charlie Gard. Hirano recently put the chances of Charlie improving under new experimental treatment at between 10% and 50%.

Earlier this month New-York Presybterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center offered to admit Charlie and to provide him with experimental treatment, according to the Washington Post.

The new High Court hearing was requested after the Vatican's children's hospital and the U.S. hospital said a new experimental protocol might work for Charlie, whose parents have been trying to secure a move to the US.

The Great Ormond Street Hospital told the court their position remains unchanged, that every medical treatment option had already been explored, and that any experimental treatment would be unjustified.

Investigators are asking the public to study the man's facial features and contact them with any information on him. The girls were kidnapped and killed near a trail in Delphi.

As a result, a judge overseeing the latest stage of litigation has agreed that Charlies mum Connie can be present when experts meet to discuss Charlie's condition.

In a statement published on its website, the hospital said: "At the heart of Charlie's parlous and bad condition is the question, how can it be in his best interests for his life-sustaining treatment to be withdrawn?"

Charlie's parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates are now making their case in the High Court seeking a ruling allowing their 11-month-old son to travel to NY for experimental treatment.

But the couple say there is new evidence and want Mr Justice Francis to carry out a fresh analysis of their case.

The emotional case went to the UK High Court last week after the hospital requested a new hearing to consider "new evidence relating to potential treatment for his condition".

In April a judge ruled in favour of Great Ormond Street, saying Charlie should be allowed to die with dignity.

They have also failed to persuade European Court of Human Rights judges to intervene.

More are scheduled for later this month following this week's gathering of medical experts.

He is due to travel to London on Tuesday to examine Charlie.
