But Sen. John McCain announced Saturday he would be staying in Arizona following surgery for a blood clot. But two Republican senators have already declared their opposition to revised legislation that was unveiled on Thursday.

Two Republicans, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of ME, have already said they'll vote against the measure.

A close vote had already been predicted to pass the GOP health care bill, with all Democrats and independents coming out against it and some Republicans opposed or undecided.

"Senator McCain received excellent treatment at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, and appreciates the tremendous professionalism and care by its doctors and staff".

His office released a statement saying McCain, 80, is resting at home.

McCain's office was not immediately available to comment on when the lawmaker would return to Washington. "Tissue pathology reports are pending within the next several days", the statement reported.

The other Republican senator from Arizona praised McCain.

McCain's office said the blood clot was discovered during an annual physical and removed Friday at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. "Surgeons successfully removed the 5-cm blood clot during a minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision", the Mayo Clinic said in a statement.

The original GOP plan was for a showdown vote on Wednesday to begin debate on the health care measure - but if McCain is back in Arizona, that would seem unlikely to go forward, as GOP leaders need every single vote they can get to keep the health bill alive. He is in good spirits and recovering comfortably at home with his family.
