Kubot-Melo, Makarova-Vesnina win doubles titles at Wimbledon

Chan and Niculescu had opportunities to get on the board late in the second set, but the Russian duo Makarova and Vesnina closed the door every time, employing effortless doubles strategies behind stellar serving to secure the title after 55 minutes on court.

Playing under a closed roof for the final 20 minutes because of darkness, Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo won the men's doubles title at Wimbledon on Saturday by beating Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 13-11.

For both Melo and Kubot, it is their second Grand Slam title.

With the win, Melo will return to the No. 1 ranking in men's doubles. Makarova and Vesnina triumphed for the third time at Grand Slam level, after 2013 Roland Garros and 2014 US Open, which means at next year's Australian Open they will bid to achieve Career Grand Slam.
