Roger Federer eyes eighth Wimbledon title, Marin Cilic the final hurdle

Berdych made it a competitive match but struggled to put Federer at the end of sets.

But just as the World No.15 was closing in on the net in an attempt to finish off the rally, Federer somehow managed to flick a backhand victor past Berdych, which left everyone stunned. The two players will meet on Centre Court in what will be the 2nd match of the day.

"If you look at the other guys who are 35, 36, I think you can very clearly see that the age and the years on tour are affecting them".

"I have to play offensive". "I was making him (play more) on his service games".

The Swiss man would be oldest Open-era Grand Slam champ if he wins his eighth Wimbledon title in his 11th final on Sunday.

He is the second oldest man to make the Wimbledon final after 39-year-old Ken Rosewall finished runner-up in 1974.

Federer leads the battle between him and Cilic by 6-1 as Cilic has not been able to defeat him.

It's also the second consecutive Grand Slam girls' singles final between Americans.

"This is his home court", Cilic said about Federer, "(the) place where he feels the best and knows that he can play the best game".

Cilic was a deserving victor, but there wasn't a person on Centre Court who wasn't just a little bit saddened that Querrey's incredible Wimbledon run was over. I mean, even those two sets in the tiebreak, I was still the one facing couple more break points down.

"Williams will face Garbiñe Muguruza, 23, who had little trouble dispatching Magdalena Rybarikova 6-1, 6-1, on the strength of a reliable first serve and profitable ventures to the net: Muguruza won 18 of the 24 points in which she approached the net".

Cilic is the first Croatian to go the distance at Wimbledon since Goran Ivanisevic beat Tim Henman to reach the Wimbledon final in 2001.

Cilic, the 2014 US Open victor, fired 25 aces and 70 winners past world number 28 Querrey, the man who ended Murray´s reign as Wimbledon champion in the quarter-finals.

Federer, contesting a record 12th Wimbledon semi-final, broke serve in the fifth game when he whipped away a forehand.

His 18 Grand Slam titles are three more than Nadal, No. 2 in that category, too.

"Last year against Marin (Cilic) was brutal", Federer said.
