'Nice remembers': Tributes flood Twitter to mark anniversary of terror attack

The prosecutor has also opened a probe into the leaking of the images on the eve of the anniversary of the attack which saw a Tunisian Islamist radical drive a truck into a crowd watching fireworks on the Nice beachfront.

According to the interior ministry, more than 130,000 security and emergency service workers have been deployed during this year's Bastille Day celebrations.

Victims associations have also denounced the publication they say is based exclusively on a desire to be "sensational" and to create "a morbid and voyeuristic atmosphere" on the anniversary of the attack.

President Emmanuel Macron will be in Nice on Friday for a ceremony remembering the attack, one year on.

A French journalist's union, SNJ, condemned the prosecutor's request, warning that it was a curb on press freedom.

Investigators were seen arriving and speaking to Staly about an hour after the wreckage was located. The plane was en route from Brunswick, Ga., to Ormond Beach , Fla., according to Action News Jax.


The magazine's executive director, Olivier Royant, had said he would defend "tooth and nail" what he said was "the right of citizens, first among them the victims, to know exactly what happened" on the day of the fatal attack.

Paris Match defended its decision to publish the images - including ones showing a truck ploughing into the crowd where 86 people were killed and hundreds injured - saying they were meant to inform the public and ensure the victims were not forgotten.

Children were among the dozens killed before police fatally shot the driver.

Images and footage of the attack and its aftermath were a controversial subject immediately after the murders.
