Manchester City could finalise Benjamin Mendy signing this week

Manchester City are getting closer to a world record move for Kylian Mbappe, according to French, Spanish and English media.

City's transfer business was going well before Dani Alves chose to snub them, meaning they would more than get back on track with a bid for Mbappe, not to mention the Kyle Walker deal that looks set to go through today.

Sky Sports News HQ understands significant progress has been made in negotiations between the clubs in the last 24 hours and the deal could be agreed before the end of the week. The Ligue 1 champions wanted £50 million for the player, but City were willing to pay just £40 million.

Rodgers tries to earn his stripes with lead at John Deere
Zach Johnson, the 2012 victor , had a 67 to join fellow American Charles Howell, the co-leader after the first round, at 10 under. Patrick Rodgers shot a 7-under 64 on Friday to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the John Deere Classic.

Guardiola is keen to get this deal done and dusted as soon as possible after missing out on Dani Alves and allowing Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta all to leave for free.

Guardiola has already raided Monaco, who dumped City out of the Champions League last term, to snap up playmaker Bernardo Silva, while a host of other star performers from Leonardo Jardim's squad are attracting attention.

But Monaco have announced that Mendy missed training today with a thigh injury, while sources in Manchester claim there have been no real advances in talks between the clubs.
