Rahul questions Modi's 'silence' on China issue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese premier Xi Jinping were among those present. Modi is expected to hold such meetings with the leaders of Mexico, Argentina, the United Kingdom and Vietnam later in the day, according to a PTI report.

The Modi-Xi tete-e-tete, which included a handshake, occurred for five minutes on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

Speaking to ANI, defence expert P. K. Sehgal said, "The body language of Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping was very friendly".

Ahead of the Friday-Saturday G20 summit in Hamburg, both China and India confirmed there would not be a formal bilateral meeting between Xi and Modi. In addition, he will also participate in the Brics leaders' meeting.

China has said the "atmosphere" is "not right" for a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, amid a standoff between the armies of the two countries in the Sikkim section.

In case you haven't heard, China and India are engaged in their worst border stand-off in years-a dicey dispute at the tri-junction of India's Sikkim state, China's Tibet, and neighboring Bhutan that was triggered by China's construction of a road near a vulnerable Indian corridor.

While stressing on the need for collective efforts to sustain global economic recovery, Modi also touched upon the issue of representation in global financial institutions.

Modi also underlined support for free and open trade regime of World Trade Organization (WTO). China's strong ties with India's great rival, Pakistan, have long rankled, but New Delhi now worries China is trying to expand its sphere of influence in South Asia.

Modi also said, "It will be our common endeavour to establish the BRICS rating agency at the earliest". The B-1B Lancers took part in joint military drills with Japan in the East China Sea, the US Air Force said in a statement. Many believe the gap between the militaries of China and India today is even bigger than in 1962, and hope India can keep calm for its own good.
