Trump does not intend to fire investigator Mueller - White House

"My story didn't change, my story was always a straight story, my story was always the truth", Trump said.

Trump also reiterated a tweet he wrote Thursday that he never actually had tapes of his conversations with Comey before he was sacked.

Mueller is in charge of the Russian Federation investigation that has expanded to include Trump's firing of Comey. According to The New York Times, the wording of the tweet was reviewed and approved by both White House Counsel and Trump's outside legal counsel.

A day after tweeting that he does not have taped conversations between himself and Comey, Trump addressed the scenario he helped raise in the first place.

"James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!' Trump tweeted.

Spicer went on to mention an aspect of Comey's testimony that the Trump administration has been eager to amplify: the fact that Comey said Trump himself was not under investigation in the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

Jury deadlocked in Bill Cosby sex assault trial, ordered to continue deliberations
For some experts and observers, drawn out deliberations had indicated possible disagreement among members of the jury. Constand denies there was any romance between them and told jurors she had rebuffed his advances before the assault .

Mr Trump has seized on that statement as vindication, though the investigation continues, as do congressional inquiries.

"It's an wonderful thing", Trump said in another Fox interview that is scheduled to air on Sunday, excerpts from which were released Friday afternoon.

Mr Trump also said that the people who were hired by the special counsel's office were "all Hillary supporters".

"Comey was determined to get revenge on the president by getting a special counsel appointed", he told Cooper.

The potential existence of recordings of Trump and Comey's conversations took on increasing importance as the pair offered contradicting claims about the nature of their discussions.

Mr Trump, in the Fox News Channel interview, did not say exactly what he thought had changed about Mr Comey's story.

"I had a policeman on the witness stand lying about what he told my client", Dershowitz told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program.

But Trump and Spicer's comments Friday went a step further, readily admitting that there was intent to influence Comey.

In the interview that aired Friday morning on Fox News, Trump indicated that, by threatening to release recordings of their encounters, he was trying to make sure Comey was honest about what they had discussed.

Trump has disputed Comey's assertion that Trump asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation director for a pledge of loyalty during a meeting.

At an off-camera briefing for White House reporters, spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to put the issue to bed.

Broken down by party, 76 percent of Democrats believed Comey while 50 percent of Republicans believed Trump. You know, it's going to be interesting.
