'Transformers: The Last Knight' debuts to a franchise low

The fifth film in the franchise took $45 million on its domestic debut, which is nearly half of what the lowest-grossing first Transformers movie made, and it's considerably lower than the franchise's highest-grossing opening film, Revenge of the Fallen (Transformers 2), which took $109 million.

Mark Wahlberg returns to star in The Last Knight - he made his franchise debut in reboot Age of Extinction - while Laura Haddock and Anthony Hopkins join the series as an Oxford professor and English lord, respectively.

An Arkansas prison inmate recaptured after 32 years
A PRISON inmate in the U.S. who was serving a burglary sentence has been recaptured after spending 32 years on the run. Four other escapees are wanted in Arkansas , including Veal Lee, a thief who went on the run in 1984.


Otherwise, "Wonder Woman" continues to post impressive numbers, and holds onto second place during its fourth weekend in theaters. In China, the big-budget action sequel made $41 million in its opening day alone.

Even without the extra two days, "Transformers" still would have won the weekend, taking in an estimated $45.3 million, with 'Wonder Woman' and 'Cars 3' coming in a virtual tie for second at around $25 million. It's nearest competition at the box office, '#Wonder Woman', continued on its record-setting pace. And at $652.9 million globally, it's the highest grossing film directed by a woman, not accounting for inflation. Sofia Coppola's "The Beguiled" remake from Focus Features played at four theaters this weekend, and should gross $240,545 with a strong per screen average before it expands to over 500 locations next weekend.

In four theaters, it earned a per-screen average of In limited release Kumail Nanjiani's acclaimed romantic comedy The Big Sick landed the best per-screen average of the year.
