Muslims mark end of Ramadan with Eid celebrations

For the first time in almost two decades, Ramadan has come and gone without the White House recognizing it with an iftar or Eid celebration, as had taken place each year under the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations.

This year's Eid comes amid ongoing crises in the Middle East - the civil war in Syria, the diplomatic crisis surrounding Qatar - but the celebrations mark a time when communities within the Muslim world comes together.

The senior general on Saturday sent separate messages to the military officials and commanders of the Islamic countries, offering warm wishes on the occasion of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

With just a couple of days to go for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, mosques and Eidghas across the city are gearing up to receive those coming to offer namaz. "Now, as they commemorate Eid with family and friends, they carry on the tradition of helping neighbours and breaking bread with people from all walks of life", the statement read. In the aftermath of the terrorist attack in London two weeks ago, Trump made several references on his Twitter to his "travel ban," which Trump openly stated was targeted at keeping Muslims from entering the United States.

Modi, who arrived in the United States on Sunday, will hold summit talks with Trump on Monday afternoon in the White House. Confronted with hostile press, both President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have leveraged social media to win elections.

This year, Mr Tillerson rejected a request by the US State Department to host such a reception.

The president said that the USA would, alongside Muslims across the world, renew its commitment to honouring those values.
