Lewis Hamilton says Sebastian Vettel 'disgraced himself today' after deliberate hit

Sebastian Vettel needs to calm down after being punished for unsafe driving in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo says.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain steers his auto during the Formula One Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan, Sunday, June 25, 2017.

The gloves are off and the fight is on between Formula One title rivals Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel believes Lewis Hamilton should have also been given a penalty for his part in their clash behind the safety vehicle during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as he appears to ignore running into Hamilton after their initial collision.

"We're all grown-ups, we're men", said Vettel. Ultimately, what happened was disrespectful. "It's not deserving of that reaction from someone you have respect for", Hamilton said.

With the win Ricciardo stays fourth in the drivers championship while Vettel moved 14 points ahead of Hamilton at the top.

An adamant Vettel added to Rachel Brookes: "He brake-checked me as well, so what do you expect? That's not how you drive".

Hamilton was denied the opportunity to prevent Vettel from extending his championship advantage when he was forced to cede his lead after pitting due to a loose head rest.

Vettel claimed Hamilton had braked in front of him and he responded by driving into the back of his rival before then bumping the Briton from the side.

If cheering could win matches, the Lions should have thrashed the Germans. "It was impressive against a world class side". All these are some of the things that would need to be fixed before the big fiesta of 2018.

"It is as clear as blue skies".

"It is a misjudgement from him and some people don't like to own up to their own mistakes".

Yet despite his 10-second stop-and-go penalty - after the stewards in Baku deemed Vettel's actions to be unsafe - the German still managed to extend his title lead to 14 points after Hamilton was forced into an unscheduled pit stop when his headrest came loose. They have won three each and - over the first seven races - both had spoken at length of their huge admiration for each other.

"They've seen today how a four-time champion behaves and I think, hopefully, that doesn't ripple into the younger categories". "I want to win the championship the right way".

Lance Stroll, an unheralded Belgian-Canadian racing driver, just secured his first ever podium finish in Formula One.

Vettel finished fourth, while Hamilton was fifth.

Hamilton had been managing pace behind the Safety Car ahead of the second restart of the insane race at the street circuit.

Both incidents clearly hampered Vettel and Hamilton's chances of success.

Castile, a gun owner, was shot at point blank range, with his girlfriend and her four year-old child in the auto . So when the Big3 debuts Sunday in NY , it will not be a bunch of former players going through the motions.

"But to drive next to him and hit him on goal, I have never seen anything like this".

The irate German was protesting what he had perceived to be a brake-test from Hamilton while the three-time world champion was managing the pace under the Safety Car, though the data later showed Vettel's assumption to be incorrect. I don't think it was necessary, I had damage, he risked damage. He's done something similar in China at the restart a couple of years ago so it's not the way to do it, I think. "It's just not the way to do it".

Hamilton was on Vettel's tail on the last lap, but could not overtake.

And, before celebrating with a customary "shoey", Ricciardo reflected on an incident-packed race.

It was also an extraordinary performance from Stroll, the son of a billionaire, who faced heavy criticism earlier in the season.

"I'm just looking forward to getting home".

"Stroll's first podium so he certainly deserves one... is he old enough to drink?" It was a remarkable recovery for Bottas, who went a lap down after suffering a puncture and front wing damage when hitting Raikkonen at Turn 2 on the opening lap.

Making the most of a series of extraordinary incidents and interventions in an action-packed race, which included three safety auto interventions and a red-flagged stoppage, Ricciardo, who started 10th, roared home 3.904 seconds ahead of the rest to deliver his first win of the season.

Moments later, Verstappen had to retire - for the fourth time in six races - because of engine problems.

And Ricciardo - Vettel's former team-mate at Red Bull - says the incident was a result of "passion and hunger".
