Black groups in Cincinnati upset by 2nd mistrial

On Friday, Hamilton County Judge Leslie Ghiz declared a mistrial after the jury sent her a note, saying they were "almost evenly split regarding our votes towards a final verdict". We have given this extensive deliberation with opportunities for both sides to express their position. "We can not allow this in our city".

Tensing claimed that the victim, Sam DuBose, tried to flee and dragged him along. Tensing asks him to take his seatbelt off, and then duBose turns the vehicle on.

WEINGARTNER: There's the body-camera video that he was wearing. The graphic footage shows the two had a brief struggle before Tensing fired his gun.

Cranley said he hopes rumors that bars and restaurants in downtown and Over-The-Rhine will close Friday night for fear of violence in the street are untrue. He claimed that his arm became trapped inside the vehicle, and as DuBose pulled away, he was dragged up to 20 feet.

The defense lawyers contended that video analysis created "20/20 hindsight" that Tensing did not have in the moment, and contended his shooting was justified because he believed, in the moment, that he was going to be dragged by DuBose's auto.

Two children, one adult dead in late-night Mississauga crash
A four-year-old and 12-year-old traveling in a vehicle with three other passengers were transported to hospital but later died. Three people, an adult and two children, have been killed in traffic accident in Mississauga just west of Toronto.

However, the member station adds that prosecutors "argued Tensing was in no imminent danger but rather forgot his training and reacted in an unreasonable manner", and "a forensic video expert analyzed Tensing's body camera footage and testified the auto didn't begin moving until.178 seconds (less than a second) before Tensing fired the fatal shot".

"Ray Tensing had a choice to make that evening", Hamilton County Assistant Prosecutor Seth Tieger said, according to CNN. "I didn't shoot to kill him".

Taylor said this deadlocked jury, combined with the acquittal of police officers in Milwaukee and Minneapolis in similar cases this week, demonstrates institutional racism in the justice system.

Heaggan-Brown was cleared of first-degree reckless homicide.

The prosecutor during the first trial, Joseph Deters, had strongly criticised the shooting.

The 27-year-old Tensing also is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the July 2015 shooting of 43-year-old Sam DuBose. Jurors deliberated more than 30 hours over five days. His first trial had 10 whites and two blacks.

A second mistrial has been declared in the Ray Tensing trial after a jury said it could not come to a unanimous decision. De Bose's family has requested that all protests remain peaceful.

For the third time in a week, the trial of a police officer in the fatal shooting of a black man has ended without a conviction, the latest setback for prosecutors and activists seeking greater accountability for the use of deadly force by the police.

"The message that is being sent is, if you are black, all the police officer has to do is say they were in fear of their life and they get away with murder because the victim [is] black", the local NAACP said in a statement.
