Rep. Scalise improves from 'critical' to 'serious' condition

Earlier Friday, House Speaker Paul Ryan paid a visit to his injured colleague, who faces the prospect of a lengthy hospitalization after getting shot in the hip at a baseball practice by a deranged man with grudges against Trump and the GOP.

According to doctors, Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise was in "imminent risk of death" when he arrived at MedStar Washington Hospital on Tuesday and endured several operations to steam a potentially fatal wound to his midsection that threatened numerous vital organs.

The doctors said that while Scalise remains in critical condition, they "are encouraged by improvement in his condition". The event raised more than than $1 million for local charities, double what it did the year before, spokeswoman Meredith Raimondi said. He said Republicans were on the field, shortly before the gunman began shooting at them.

Ticket sales picked up after Wednesday's shooting, eventually setting an attendance record, the organizers said, as attendees such as Alexander Hilten, 16, of Arlington, Virginia, made a decision to come to the game for the first time.

Scalise, who has had two surgeries, will need additional operations and will be in the hospital for "a considerable period of time, presumably weeks", Sava said. But, in a shift from Obama's approach, Trump said trade and other penalties would stay in place until a long list of prerequisites was met.

Doctors "fully expect him to walk", Sava said, "and hopefully run".

Qatar Airways seeks stake in American in 'puzzling' move
Qatar Airways said it would not exceed this level without board approval and would "make all necessary regulatory filings". Qatar Airlines plans to invest $808 million in acquiring the stock of American Airlines from the open market.

"I feel a lot more confident and a lot more optimistic than I did two, three days ago", Dr. Sava said at a press conference.

Scalise was shot Wednesday morning as a gunman sprayed bullets into a Republican congressional baseball practice.

Mark Sanford, R, SC said, "I think as much as anything, today is an act of solidarity of Republicans and Democrats coming together to say what happened yesterday is not going to cancel this game". He remains in critical condition.

A huge ovation came from the crowd, which swelled to a record 24,959, when Special Agent David Bailey, one of the Capitol Police officers injured in the attack on Republicans at their practice in Virginia on Wednesday, threw out the first pitch. Hodgkinson, a Belleville, Illinois, home inspector, had been living out of his van near the park. On Friday, Bailey was spotted back in the Capitol building, on crutches and out of uniform, accepting congratulations from fellow officers.
