Trump not under investigation in Russian Federation probe: Lawyer

He started up again Friday morning, this time posting: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" Comey described the memos in a public testimony on 8 June 2017, his first public appearance since Trump fired him on 9 May 2017. But there are conflicting signals about what is actually happening.

Cuomo maintained that the special counsel in the Russian Federation probe, Robert Mueller, will be looking into the circumstances around Comey's firing as Sekulow said he couldn't be sure Mueller would be doing that at all, as the President is able to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director per the Constitution. "I think you're reading more into the tweet than what's there".

How do you know?

Most Republicans were happy to see Mueller take over the investigation after Comey was sacked because it allowed them to redirect politically fraught questions about Russian Federation to the special counsel's office.

Maybe Trump's Friday tweet can be reconciled with his lawyer's Sunday statements if the president has become convinced he is not for the moment in the crosshairs of the special Russian Federation counsel.

"The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction".

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", Mr. Sekulow said on CNN. It's Comey who claimed that Trump pressured him to ease off his investigation of Mike Flynn, and who, as some said, laid the groundwork for an obstruction charge.

Last week, The Washington Post, citing unnamed officials, reported that Mueller was widening his investigation to include " an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice".

But while Mueller mulls over that decision, more and more voices are being raised calling for him to step aside due to a serious conflict of interest that probe would represent.

"He is a good guy and has been through a lot", Trump said.

At least 58 killed in devastating forest fire in Portugal
Just over 1,000 firefighters are still tackling that blaze about 90 miles (150km) north of Lisbon . Dozens of people who fled their homes have been taken in by residents of nearby municipalities.

Rosenstein is overseeing Mueller's work since Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the investigation because of his ties and participation with the 2016 Trump campaign. Mueller operates with day-to-day independence of Rosenstein, but Rosenstein still oversees how the investigation is funded.

Sekulow said that Trump's successful use of social media will be "studied" decades from now.

"The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to The Washington Post", Sekulow told NBC television's "Meet the Press". His tweet about a “WITCH HUNT” conducted by “bad” people is just a Trumpian version of what appears to be the official White House line — that this is somehow a partisan attempt to delegitimize the Trump presidency.

On "Face The Nation" on CBS, Sekulow clarified that he's so confident that there isn't any investigation into the president because they have not received any notification from the special counsel's office. Sekulow had told Wallace twice in the interview that Trump was under investigation and then said he wasn't. "Which also makes you wonder why they'd pick a guy who is Comey's close friend to investigate a situation in which inevitably involves Comey".

Mueller and Comey both worked in the Bush administration and were involved in a dispute over whether Bush Attorney General John Ashcroft should reauthorize a post-9/11 domestic surveillance program. The lessons of history suggest such traumas raise questions of political legitimacy and constitutional process that have the potential to sour life in Washington for years in the future.
