West Virginia transfer QB Will Grier will be eligible for the start of the 2017 season, WVU coach Dana Holgorsen announced on Tuesday.

The former Florida quarterback will be playing for the Mountaineers. He helped overcome a double-digit deficit against Tennessee and the following week completed 24 of his 29 attempts for 271 yards and four touchdowns against Ole Miss.

Grier was suspended halfway through the 2015 season after a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs while he was a freshman at Florida. According to ESPN, WVU pursued a NCAA waiver for Grier to be eligible for the opener instead of sitting until Game 7.

Will Grier has been cleared to play in the opening game of the season for West Virginia.

West Virginia is coming off of a stellar 2016 season in which it finished with a 10-3 record and an appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
